SARMS *UK* | Your Go To Guide

Recently SARMs have come forward in the world finding themselves in to the hands of consumers despite the lack of research for human consumption. But they are being researched by some of the leading companies in the business like GSK – which has led to the highly popular Ostarine (MK-2866).

DISCLAIMER: THESE PRODUCTS DISCUSSED ARE FOR RESEARCH PURPOSES ONLY. THIS PRODUCT IS NOT A NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENT, NOR A FOOD AND SHOULD NOT BE USED AS ONE. THIS PRODUCT IS SOLELY FOR RESEARCH PURPOSES ONLY.

What Are SARMs?

Selective Androgen Receptor Modulator. SARM.

This might not explain much but we’ll break it down throughout the article and see where we end up.

Androgens..?

An Androgen is a class of hormones that serve as ligands that bind to cellular androgen receptors. All anabolic steroids or pro-hormones build muscle through binding to androgen receptors.

What do they do, how do they help?

SARMS essentially are intended to produce similar effects to that of androgenic drugs such as testosterone but would be much more selective in their action, allowing them to potentially have more uses in pharmaceuticals and cause less side effects than other anabolic products for performance enhancement purposes.

They do this by stimulating the nuclear hormone receptors within cells under different conditions. This may then be able to mimic the beneficial effects selectively within the given tissue without the unwanted side effects of pro-hormone substances.

SARMs are agonists of the androgen receptor (AR) in anabolic tissues such as bone and skeletal muscle, but only partial agonists in androgenic areas such as the prostate and sex organs. This means they definitely have a lot less of an impact on the areas that are commonly problematic with the use of hormonal drugs. This is due to minimal or no estrogen conversion and minimal spill over into other hormones.

But are they safe?

In short, it depends who you ask. Hundreds of thousands of users across the world report results with minimal or no side effects from several different SARMs. But a smaller minority of users have experienced some side effects which vary from person to person as everyone is different.

Websites that are selling SARMS without any disclaimer or consideration
for your health are not conducting good business. That’s why we believe here,
at Phoenix Supplement Store, in full disclosure. SARMs are not side effect free.
SARMs are also not going to be highly detrimental to your health or life.

If you have pre-existing health conditions it is not advised to take SARMs as much as it’s not advised to use a lot of other drugs, supplements and medications where there may be unknown contraindications with your particular situation.

ARM Legality in the UK (at time of writing)

Legally: SARMs are currently not on any legal banned list or legislation as a banned ingredient/substance.
Sports: SARMs and all similar ingredients are banned by WADA and most sporting organizations.

If you are a professional athlete, you should not consider taking SARMs.

Some information on SARMs that we carry.

Ostarine – MK-2866 – Enobosarm

Ostarine is the most popular SARM on the planet, although it is non-steroidal it is closely related to anabolic/androgenic in its activity. As it successfully stimulates most notably the Androgen Receptor (AR) in skeletal muscle and bone. It is far less active in “androgenic” tissues such as the prostate or sex organs.

Ostarine is also the most studied SARM as in 2017 it had 24 human clinical trials involving more than 1,500 people. They were looking into the therapeutic benefits for muscle wasting, breast cancer and urinary incontinence. In one of these studies elderly men and women were given a dosage of just 3mg per day for 12 weeks and the average gain was a 3% increase in lean body mass (LBM) which equated on average to 1.3kg as well as an average fat loss of 0.6kg, the results even showed improved insulin sensitivity. Another study followed with similar results with postmenopausal women taking 3mg daily and over 12 weeks had an average increase of 1.5kg LBM.

During these studies no side effects such as testosterone suppression or estrogen conversion occurred. However, some patients did have mild elevations of liver enzymes (roughly 20%) and negative alterations of serum lipids (HDL down 27%). With most of the patients these levels were still considered within normal range and not a high or even mild cardiovascular risk.

The usual dosage for performance enhancing is 10mg daily for women, 10mg daily during PCT, 20mg daily as a SARM cycle for 4-8 weeks. The average results from this is 5-7lbs of lean body mass gained, some fat reduction, mild to large strength increases and improved muscular endurance.

Cardarine – GW501515, GW516

Firstly, Cadarine is not a Selective Androgen Receptor Modulator but instead is a Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor Delta (PPARD) receptor agonist. It is often classed or grouped with SARMs from a sales and marketing perspective. The receptor plays an important role in human metabolism and helps regulated genes that help manage the transport and oxidation of fatty acids.

Cardarine captured the attention of the fitness community due to its merits in energy metabolism, by reducing glucose utilisation and increasing fatty acid oxidation. In layman’s terms it triggers the body to burn fat as fuel over glucose. Added to this Cardarine has been shown to improve ATP efficiency and therefore enhance endurance. This was picked up in animal studies when researchers found that mice had greatly increased cardiovascular endurance.

Due to the way Cardarine works users and animal studies showed that Cardarine is associated with significant reduction in body fat. Where Cardarine or GW50515 becomes extremely interesting is that PPARD activation increased mitochondrial biogenesis in the muscle, which can remodel your muscle tissue! In studies of trained and untrained mice, Cardarine caused fast twitch muscle fiber to convert to slow twitch muscle fibers. Because of this Cardarine is often called an exercise mimetic as only exercise could normally make these changes to your metabolism and fiber composition.

In phase 1 and phase 2 trials which lasted 12 weeks 268 patients with low HDL levels were given 2.5,5,10mg daily. During this time good cholesterol improved by 17% and bad cholesterol was reduced by 7%. Bodyweight also increased on average 1.3kg however a LBM vs fat mass analysis was not completed. Due to the way GW1501515 works it is safe to assume it was all or mostly LBM.

In the past there have been rumors based upon speculation regarding tumor growth in the colon. HOWEVER, in 2004 a study published by the American Association of Cancer Research confirmed that Cardarine had shown to have no effect on the proliferation of colorectal cancer cells under normal cultural conditions and PPAR activation has no effect on cell growth. To further this point in 2008 a study was done on human breast cancer and colour cancer cells and not only did the PPAR agonist prove to be safe it was shown to inhibit further cancer cell growth.
Cardarine is normally taken at 10-20mg daily for performance enhancement, for 6-12 weeks.

S23

The S23 SARM is a SARM, developed by GTx, Inc as a potential male contraceptive. Yes, the purpose of this is nothing to do with muscle and strength but to do with your sperm. It binds to the AR more strongly than the older SARMs such as Anadrine.

S23 could be considered as one of the more potent SARMs due to its very strong bonds with the AR. But the contraceptive effects of S23 are due to its ability to suppress FSH and LH, two key hormones for making sperm. In rats S23 the half-life is reported to be 11.9 hours and when taken by mouth 96% is absorbed by the body and levels peak at around the 4-hour mark. In rats a study shows that S23 decreased average body weight and fat mass, the rats were then also given estrogen which causes muscle loss but S23 was able to override the effects of estrogen and increase lean muscle mass.

Now back to the sperm. When S23 was given to male rats it resulted in a 100% infertility rate. But most interestingly sperm count went back to normal after finishing S23, and rats resumed mating at 100% pregnancy rates. However, too much S23 caused sperm counts to reverse the initial effect and supported sperm production.

The typical performance enhancing dosage is 10-30mg per day. Unfortunately, the average varies so much with S23 it is hard to give any decent indication without too many assumptions. It is worth noting at a PCT is probably needed due to its ability to reduce FSH, LH and Testosterone levels.

MK-677 – Ibutamoren – MK-0677 – L-163,191

MK-677 like Cardarine is not a SARM but is also often classed or grouped with SARMs from a sales and marketing perspective. MK-677 is a growth hormone secretagogue that mimics the activity of Ghrelin. In human studies it has been shown to significantly elevate serum levels of both GH and IGF-1 levels, increase fat free mass, energy expenditure, improve sleep quality and reduce diet induced catabolism.

MK-677 is also likely to increase cortisol, ACTH (adrenocorticotropic) and prolactin levels, however most of the time this spill over is not noticeable to the user. MK-677 is an potent appetite stimulant which many view as a plus but if you are looking to lose fat then it is often seen as a side effect, as unless you control your diet well, using MK-677 will make you greatly increase your calorie intake.

MK-677 is normally taken at 10-25mg daily for anywhere between 4 weeks and 6 months.

Do I NEED a PCT for SARMS?

PCT stands for Post Cycle Therapy. The aim of PCT is to return your testosterone back to normal levels, whilst combating any side effects that try to appear during this time. Unfortunately, the human body tries to be clever and when testosterone is on the rise, it tends to increase estrogen too. Sometimes even at a faster rate, because of this during PCT it is important to block estrogen from aromatizing so that side effects such as Gyno (male breast growth) or even muscle loss don’t occur.

I heard you don’t need a PCT for SARMs?

True and false. You will not need a PCT for MK-677 or Cadarine. However, you will NEED A PCT FOR THE FOLLOWING;

LGD-4033

RAD-140

S23

YK-11

Anadrine

S4

Ostarine is a bit of an odd one, most often if it is used at 20mg daily for 4-8 weeks and PCT is most often not needed due to it only causing very mild suppression. However, the higher the dosage creeps up the more likely a PCT will be needed.

SERMS or Selective Estrogen Receptor modulators are the most well-known illegal PCT drugs due their effectiveness but also, sadly, some of the side effects that come along with them. It is highly recommended that drugs like Clomid and Tamoxifen are fully understood before considering. OTC PCT (Over the Counter Post Cycle Therapy) are also available and are much stronger and effective than the older generation used to be.

YOUR PCT IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS YOUR CYCLE.

Your PCT is the difference between keeping gains and not.

Your PCT can be the difference between having side effects and not.

Epicatechin can be found primarily from two sources, Cocoa Extract and/or Green Tea.

Green tea (Camellia Sinensis) is a plant frequently steeped in hot water and drunk as tea. It exerts most of its benefits through water-soluble polyphenols (frequently referred to as catechins) extracted from the leaves, into water, which is then consumed.

“Green Tea Catechins,” Examine.com, published on 1 December 2013, last updated on 21 February 2020,https://examine.com/supplements/green-tea-catechins/

Cocoa extract refers to the bioactive compounds found in cocoa products. These compounds include flavanols, procyanidins and (-)-epicatechin. Though these molecules are not unique to cocoa, cocoa extract contains a particularly high level of (-)-epicatechin, compared to other plant products.

“Cocoa Extract,” Examine.com, published on 30 November 2014, last updated on 3 October 2019,https://examine.com/supplements/cocoa-extract/

Epicatechin has been the subject of several studies that have uncovered a host of physiological benefits, including:

  • Enhancing muscle growth and strength naturally via a novel pathway
  • Increasing nitric oxide production for improved vascularity, blood flow and endurance
  • Improving insulin sensitivity, regulating blood sugar levels and stimulating muscle protein synthesis
  • Lowering cholesterol levels due to its natural antioxidant properties
  • Improving brain and heart health

Research with epicatechin indicates that it increases levels of follistatin, a special type of protein found in the muscles, which binds to and thereby inhibits the actions of myostatin in the body. In a nutshell, more follistatin equals less myostatin, which in turn means more muscle mass.

A study conducted on males of an average age of 40 showed that approximately 170mg of epicatechin per day, dosed at 2mg per kg of bodyweight, resulted in almost a 50% increase in follistatin and a 16.6% decrease in myostatin, alongside a strength increase of 7%. In a second study, researchers provided participants with 50-200mg of epicatechin a day and were amazed to find that their follistatin levels were 250% higher after just 5 days!

Both research and empirical usage suggests that epicatechin should be dosed at 1-2mg/kg of bodyweight. Feedback from users suggests that dosing at the higher end, around 150-200mg or more per day, is optimal for those who want to experience its athletic and muscle building benefits. You’d have to consume a lot of chocolate to get those amounts from the diet so supplementation is recommended.

There are some supplements that feature epicatechin as their key ingredient and some that include it within a blend of natural anabolics.

Post Cycle Therapy | PCT & Why You Need It

[cmsmasters_row][cmsmasters_column data_width=”1/1″][cmsmasters_text]

POST CYCLE THERAPY | PCT and Do I Need One?

As a disclaimer Phoenix Supplement Store does not recommend that you partake in the use of pro hormone substances outside of the recommendations of your doctor or a medical professional. The products that we provide are to reduce potential harm that can be caused by use of such substances. Statements have not been approved by any medical or food related governing body. This article does not constitute as medical or any other form of advice and nothing mentioned in the article is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent disease. Results are not guaranteed and vary upon starting point, goals, genetics and effort.

What is a PCT? PCT stands for Post Cycle Therapy. A PCT is a cycle of one or more supplements or drugs, usually taken for 6-8 weeks. It’s aim is to prevent estrogen rebound and stop any estrogenic side effects, balance natural testosterone levels to minimise side effects and maximise your gains made during the cycle.

DO I NEED A PCT?

If you’re looking to, or have already started to use any supplement or substance that has an effect on your hormonal levels (Prohormone) or most SARMS then yes, you should use a PCT.

PCT supplements have not always existed within the public market, but these chemicals and substances have always been used in the medical industry in some way or another in order to help regulate the production of hormones within the body.

If you have been using substances referred to above then you will find that without a PCT then you can see the effects of increased estrogen levels within the body – much higher than normal, whilst testosterone levels are not as positively impacted as they should be.

What are the effects of increased estrogen?

Increased estrogen in males leads to a number of side effects, these include but are not entirely limited to:

  • Gynecomastia (Increased lipid deposition within the chest)
  • Low mood, highly emotional state of mind
  • Increased subcutaneous fat storage (visible fat)
  • Muscle Atrophy

What are the effects of low testosterone?

Low testosterone as a result of coming off cycle will make the experience even harder as we can expect to see:

  • Fatigue and Lethargy
  • Muscle Atrophy
  • Low mood, confidence.
  • Decreased libido

Essentially by not using a PCT your directly impacting all of the work that you’ve done and the use of the substances that you have taken – as well as putting your physical and mental health at risk.

What about SARMS? Only with SARMS that will suppress your natural testosterone levels – there are some SARMS that do not have this effect so do not REQUIRE a PCT but it is still something we would recommend doing as it will still have a benefit to your general health and wellbeing post cycle.

Ostarine – PCT?

Ostarine or MK-2866 being used up to 20mg for 8 weeks should not require a PCT. Higher dosages or longer cycle times will most likely need a PCT.

LGD (Ligandrol)?

LGD-4033 does require a PCT at any dosage and cycle length. In clinical studies testosterone levels went back to normal levels within 21 days with no PCT. However, the study may be at a lower dosage than you are considering, and if stacking with other products this will increase the shutdown effect.  Cardarine?

Cardarine or GW-50156 is also not technically a SARM and does not require a PCT as it does not impact testosterone levels.

YK-11?

YK-11 is not a SARM but is a steroid and does need a PCT. You can read more about YK-11 HERE ⬅️

MK677?

MK-677 is also not a SARM, it is a growth hormone secretagogue. It does not require a PCT as it does not impact testosterone levels.

WHAT PCT SHOULD I USE THEN?

Legal PCT’s can be highly effective for some of the less suppressive cycles. For example, a legal supplement PCT protocol can be good enough following a sensible LGD or Ostarine SARMcycles. But they are not powerful enough to combat months long steroid cycles.

Legal PCT ingredients can be mainly split into two categories; Testosterone Boosters and estrogen blockers.

If you’ve used a highly suppressive cycle – then it may be useful for you to use medical grade PCT’s – this is more in depth than what we can cover in an article – please contact a medical professional for advice on this.

Testosterone boosters are there to help boost natural testosterone back to normal levels for all the reasons mentioned earlier. There is a huge amount of testosterone boosters available, but the most effective ones contain these ingredients and importantly at these correct dosages. Check them out below.

  • D-aspartic Acid (DAA) – 3,000mg (3g) per day
  • Bulbine Natalensis – 1,000mg (1g) per day
  • KSM-66 – 750 – 1250mg (0.75-1.25g) per day
  • Vitamin D3 – 3300iU per day
  • Fenugreek Extract – 500mg (0.5g)

he most effective legal anti estrogen, an extremely underrated supplement in general, is Arimistane.

Arimistane is a powerful AI that decreases circulating levels of estrogen in the body. Some studies have shown it will even lower cortisol levels too. Arimistane is a suicidal AI, which prevents the conversion of testosterone to estrogen. It does this by binding to the aromatase enzyme and does so with a binding rate of .22 micromolar which is far stronger than ATD and 6-oxo which are alternatives to Arimistane. Once it binds, it is incapable of releasing until the body eliminates the enzyme from the body.

A dosage of 75mg per day is a common PCT dosage.

PCT products from MUSCLE RAGE such as Regenerate in combination with our testosterone booster King Test is the perfect combination for a PCT following a SARMs or DHEA ProHormone cycle. Check out the products below that will get you through your next PCT

GENUINE LAXOGENIN

Laxogenin is reasonably new in the world of supplements. We see it a lot when we’re researching different products, trying to decide what is best for us. But why is everyone raving about it and what changes should we expect to when we start using it?

In simple terms Laxogenin or 5a-Hydroxy Laxogenin is a plant steroid. It is harvested from the rhizomes of the Smilaz Sieboldii plant, which is most commonly grown in East Asia and South and North America. Laxogenin first gained attention after researchers noticed it was showing growth stimulating properties. After burrowing deeper, they realised that it actually has an anabolic/androgenic ratio very similar to Anavar, which is the most popular steroid of all time.

The scoop on Laxogenin and Building Muscle

There are 4 essential points about Laxogenin that will peak the interest of you sports fanatics out there:

  1. It is proven to increase protein synthesis by around 200%. This is in essence the process whereby biological cells generate new proteins. So, this will be happening nearly twice as much as usual with the help of Laxogenin.
  2. Laxogenin DOES NOT alter the user’s natural hormone balance, so say goodbye to all those cycle-supports or post-cycle supplements. When you take pro-hormones, your body senses a spike in androgen levels and shuts down its own production of testosterone. Laxogenin on the other hand doesn’t interfere with the endocrine system, meaning you will see no change in hormones such as estrogen and testosterone.
  3. Whilst Laxogenin directly increases protein synthesis and nitrogen retention, it simultaneously decreases protein breakdown and inhibiting the stress hormone, cortisol. Because of this Laxogenin helps create the ideal anabolic environment for improving body composition.
  4. Finally, due to Laxogenin being 100% natural, it will not show up on a recreational drugs or anabolic drug screening. So, we can finally give our muscles the boost we need legally.

Other benefits of Laxogenin

Because Laxogenin doesn’t alter the user’s natural hormone balance, it means it can be utilised at key moments in your cycles. Stacking it with a PCT product could do a lot for your muscle mass. This is the time where you might see the most muscle wastage, so stacking a Laxogenin product during your PCT could mean you keep most of those valuable gains you worked so hard for.

There is yet to be any evidence to support negative side effects of Laxogenin. All of our customers who have used Laxogenin have not had any issues during the cycle even when taken along-side other supplements. So as a safe, side-effect free alternative to pro-hormones, Laxogenin is really storming the market.

Cycling, Dosages and Who Can Take It?

The best dosage of Laxogenin sits at around 100mg a day, although it can vary from person to person dependent on their desired goals. For example, a woman looking to gain minor muscle mass would take less than a man who’s in the bulking stages of their cycle.

So, if you’re looking to start cycling Laxogenin we would recommend starting at a lower dosage, around 75-100mg, and then increasing or decreasing dependant on the results you are seeing. One thing we have noticed with people cycling Laxogenin, is if taking a high dosage at once, the user can experience minor headaches. But splitting your dosages up, so taking half in the morning and then the other half at night, you should avoid this issue.

Cycling Laxogenin for a long period of time hasn’t shown or caused any negative effects that we have heard about or seen. Even so we would recommend the best way to take it is 12 weeks on, 4 weeks off. Everyone’s body will become more tolerant to a product the longer we take it, so it’s always good to give your body a break. This allows your body to recuperate and once again feel the initial changes more when we start a cycle.
Due to the fact it isn’t suppressant and makes no changes to your bodies hormonal balance, Laxogenin can be taken by anyone. It’s a great product for anyone who wants to stay away from pro-hormones but needs quick results.

To Conclude….

Laxogenin is a supplement that can be taken by anyone. It has so many benefits that it can slide right into anyone’s cycles to give an extra added boost wherever they need it. The benefit of not having to worry about post-cycle therapies and change in hormone levels is what makes this product great. Let’s get one thing straight, you are NOT going to get the level of pro-hormone like results with Laxogenin that you would get by taking Anavar for instance. But it is a close as you are going to get without any side-effects whatsoever through the cycle.

So to make your decision about Laxogenin easier you have two options. Either take Pro-Hormones and get big fast, but have all the added costs for your PCT products and experience all the lousy side-effects you are trying to avoid. OR bulk over an extended period of time but stay away from ALL the nasty side-effects and issues you might run into whilst taking pro-hormones.

CREATINE? MONO-WHY-DRATE.

Creatine Supplementation: (Methylgluanido-Acetic Acid)

Introduction

Creatine is one of the most potent muscle building supplements in the supplement world, and has been around for quite a long time too! An amino acid, creatine is found normally in the body, with 95% of it found in the skeletal muscle tissue. The body receives its creatine from food that is eaten, typically 2 grams per day. The body also makes its own creatine in the liver from other amino acids.

Creatine is an ergogenic (muscle building) supplement, and numerous studies have proven its effect. “Extra creatine is therefore ergogenic, because it may help generate more power output during intense exercise.” (Exercise & Sports Nutrition Laboratory).

Creatine has also been proven to increase strength, performance, and muscle mass. “In addition, long term creatine supplementation produces greater gains in strength and sprint performance and may increase lean body mass.” (Exercise & Sport Nutrition Laboratory).

Other studies have proven creatine’s health benefits, not only to bodybuilders or athletes, but to non-athletic and aging individuals.

“Recent creatine research suggests creatine may have therapeutic applications in aging populations[…]” (William D. Brink). To view my full, un-edited post, click here. [(Editor)].

Most people have no idea that creatine has such amazing health benefits as well as the obvious muscle building and energy providing one.

Believe it or not, research has shown that creatine can increase growth hormone production! Its no surprise that creatine is the most wide sold muscle building supplement in the world!

Various Forms:

Is there a difference between the various forms of creatine?

Of course! Every type of creatine is different in composition, solubility, and effectiveness. Some creatines are more soluble than others, which, in turn, increases their effectiveness. Other creatines have chemicals attached which increase their absorption and uptake into the muscle, which eliminates the need for a loading phase. But basically, all creatines do the same thing:

  1. Volumizing muscle (increasing mass).
  2. Improving strength.
  3. Increases energy (ATP levels) for activities that require short bouts of quick energy such as lifting, sprinting, and HIIT cardio.

Here are the different types, their advantages and disadvantages, and find some that we sell!

Creatine Monohydrate:

Creatine Monohydrate is the normal, original creatine that people have been using for decades. It is still the most wide sold creatine product out of all the rest. Purity is important when searching for a creatine product, because, the purer, the more effective! SKW creatine (made in Germany) is the purest creatine around (99.8%). Companies that use it will have to say CreapureTM.

Pros:

  1. Almost all studies conducted concerning creatine used creatine monohydrate, and reached to amazing results and conclusions.
  2. Most effective type of creatine yet.
  3. Cheap.

Cons:

  1. Not very soluble in water.
  2. Low surface area, which decreases uptake of creatine into the muscle, causing only about 1% to be absorbed into the body.
  3. May contain impurities if not bought from a reputable company.
  4. Reports of diarrhea and stomach discomfort because insoluble creatine sits in the stomach attracting water.
  5. Causes water bloating in some people, which is an extra layer of water under the skin.
  6. Some people do not respond to this type of creatine (non-responders).
  7. Unstable in water and should be taken immediately after dissolving it.
  8. Does not require a loading phase.

Micronized Creatine:

Micronized Creatine is essentially creatine monohydrate, except it has been micronized, which means the molecules of creatine have been divided or cut up. This increases their surface area 20 times, increasing absorption and reducing stomach discomfort.

Pros:

  1. Essentially the same as monohydrate but with a larger surface area and smaller molecules, so the same amazing effects of monohydrate.
  2. Greatly reduces unwanted monohydrate side effects such as bloating and stomach discomfort.
  3. More effective than monohydrate, and most monohydrate non-responders should respond to this.
  4. Purer than monohydrate because it goes through more processes.

Cons:

  1. Slightly more expensive than monohydrate
  2. Requires a loading phase

Creatine Ethyl Ester (CEE):

CEE is a creatine molecule with an ester attached. Normal creatine molecules are zwitterions, or molecules with one positive end and one negative end. This causes less absorption into the body.

However, the ester counteracts the charges and allows for almost 99% absorption into the body! This removes the need for a loading phase, and is THE MOST absorbent creatine by far yet!

Pros:

  1. More effective because of increased absorption.
  2. All users will respond to this.
  3. Does not cause any of the side effects of monohydrate such as bloating or stomach discomfort.
  4. No loading phase or a 1 day loading phase.

Cons:

  1. Foul taste in powder form, some users reported it tasted like battery acid! There are capsule forms, however, that eliminate this.
  2. Expensive compared to monohydrate and micronized.

Creatine Serum:

Creatine Serum is arguably the most debated type of creatine every to be introduced to the market. Some users report astonishing results, while others claim no results at all. This is basically creatine dissolved in water. However, users who saw results reported better results with monohydrate. I would not suggest to anyone to use this kind of creatine.

Pros:

  1. 1. No loading phase required because it absorbs easily.
  2. 2. Easy to use, just put a drop under the tongue.
  3. 3. Usually mixed with other vitamins and amino acids.

Cons:

  1. Mounting scientific evidence indicates that serum is useless.
  2. Creatine is unstable in liquid and breaks down to creatinine if dissolved in liquid for a prolonged period of time. Creatinine is a useless substance which puts strain on the kidneys.
  3. Extremely expensive.
  4. Much less effective than monohydrate in aspect of increasing muscle mass, and to a lesser degree in aspect of increasing muscle strength.

Effervescent Creatine:

Effervescent Creatine is basically creatine combined with sugar or sodium, and a chemical which causes bubbles in the liquid. This increases absorption and has a better taste.

Pros:

  1. More absorption.
  2. Better taste.

Cons:

  1. Extremely Expensive.
  2. Is combined with sugar and sodium, 2 foods bodybuilders should reduce.
  3. Debatable whether this is actually any different than monohydrate, or whether it even gives the same results.

Creatine Citrate:

Creatine Citrate is another form of creatine bonded with other molecules that increase absorption. Although slightly water-soluble and absorbent than creatine, they require double the amounts than monohydrate does and they are also much more expensive.

Pros:

  1. Soluble and absorbent, will cause less stomach discomfort

Cons:

  1. Expensive.
  2. Requires double the dosage to be as effective as monohydrate.

Tri & Di Creatine Malate:

These are another type of creatine bonded with other molecules (companies seem to love this) which increases absorption. The difference is, these have gotten positive feed back and do work! Tri is the more absorbent and soluble of the two. Tri Creatine Malate is a compound of molecules created from malic acid and creatine. Tri Malate has 3 monohydrate molecules attached and Di Malate has 2.

Pros:

  1. Faster recovery and less fatigue during workout.
  2. More water soluble and absorbent.
  3. Cell Volumizing effect.

Cons:

  1. Usually very expensive because it is mixed with other chemicals.
  2. Health effects are unknown.

Creatine Kre-Alkalyn:

Creatine Kre-Alkalyn is basically a special protected creatine which does not convert into useless creatinine as readily as other creatines before being absorbed into muscle tissue. It is another form of creatine bonded to a molecule. No clinical trials have been made on this type of creatine yet, but most user feedback is positive.

Pros:

  1. No loading phase required.
  2. Less bloating and stomach discomfort.

Cons:

  1. Expensive.
  2. No studies have been carried out on this type of creatine yet.

Creatine Orate:

Creatine orate is another type of creatine bonded to a molecule. This time, the molecule is orotic acid. Orotic acid is a precursor of nucleic acids which help optimal cell functioning and energy use from ATP. So this is actually creatine, which has its own energy enhancing properties, and orotic acid, which increases ATP levels in 3 ways.

Pros:

  1. More energy than what monohydrate will give.
  2. Decrease symptoms of fatigue.

Cons:

  1. EXTREMELY expensive.
  2. Its effects have not been proven by studies or tests.

Creatine Cocktails (Mixed With Glutamine/Nitric Oxide, Sugar… )

Creatine cocktails are usually mixed with other amino acids such as glutamine and taurine. Other creatine cocktails are mixed with nitric oxide. These products allow us to gain from both products, which help each other, and allow us to synergistically maximize their effects.

For example, the most famous of this effect is stacking (using at the same time) NO and creatine. They always give their users much more muscle gains than when using nitric oxide or creatine alone! So if you have the cash, and you’re not worried about putting lots of supplements in your body, then this is for you!

Pros:

  1. Cheap compared to the amount of supplements in the arsenal.
  2. Extremely effective as they take advantage of the synergetic effects of combining different supplements.
  3. Contain creatine transports and transports for the other ingredients which increase absorption. This doubles the effectiveness of these already extremely effective products.

Cons:

  1. Uses many kinds of chemicals, not all their effects have been thoroughly studied.
  2. Means putting a large amount of supplements in the body.
  3. Expensive as a product.

Goals:

Should you change forms of creatine when changing your goals such as bulking/cutting?

I do suggest one change the form of creatine he or she uses when cutting. Some creatines, such as creatine monohydrate and micronized creatine to a lesser degree, have been reported to cause bloating and water retention. During cutting, your objective is to get as ripped and fat-free and lose as much weight as possible.

Water retention increases weight, and makes you bloated and soft, so you will gain weight and lose definition if you use a creatine such as monohydrate or micronized. As a result, I would suggest, for cutting, one use a more soluble creatine such as CEE or creatine serum or tri creatine malate.

For bulking, your aim is to gain as much muscle weight as possible, and you don’t care about how ripped or defined you look. As a result, it’s ok to take creatine monohydrate or micronized creatine during a bulking phase.

But for someone who wants to keep his definition up all year round, I would suggest to use CEE, because it is the most soluble and absorbent creatine yet, and it is even more effective than regular monohydrate.

Note, creatine will lose its effectiveness during cutting, and will not put on any muscle. It will only serve as a supplement to give you energy pre-workout, so it is not necessary to take creatine post-workout during cutting phases. As a result, one doesn’t need to use creatine during cutting, but it can help to a lesser extent.

Is It Improving?

Is creatine getting better as technology is getting better, or is nothing better than the original?

In my opinion, there are some advancements in creatine that have been extremely effective to improve it. An example of this is CEE, which I believe is the most effective form of creatine currently out there. It is much more soluble and absorbent, and absorbs 99% as opposed to the 1% of monohydrate! This makes it much more effective.

However, there have also been advancements that are useless and create products that are less effective than monohydrate. Unfortunately, these new creatines have just been scams by companies to make a new creatine and call it a breakthrough.

An example of these advancements is the creatine serum, which is useless. If it hasn’t been made within the same month, the chances of it being pure creatine instead of creatinine are very low.

The original still has its uses and advantages, such as being cheap, available, and most reliable form. I believe the disadvantages such as the bloating effect, the low amount of responders, and the stomach pains and diarrhea outweigh the advantages. I believe micronized creatine should now be considered the original, because it is essentially pure monohydrate, but broken into smaller molecules to increase surface area and therefore absorption.

I believe that the best form of creatine is CEE, and more and better forms will eventually come out. We must learn to differentiate between company scam forms such as the serum, and high quality, increasingly effective products such as CEE and micronized creatine. More of these will be created by technology; we just have to spot them!

Future:

What do you see in the future for creatine?

The future will surely bring is more stunningly effective products, each more effective than before. I believe we will see a change in trends from combining molecules to creatine, to more effective creatines with added chemicals into the powder which allow the muscle to utilize more of the creatine, and increase its capacity to handle creatine.

We may even see new forms of creatine such as trans-dermal gels, injections… . Only the future can tell, but what’s for sure is it will keep getting better!

Creatine Myths Exposed:

  • Caffeine will not counter-act the effects of creatine, and may even help! (Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, Volume 34, Number 11, 2002 Mike Doherty, Paul M. Smith, R. C. Richard Davidson, and Michael G. Hughes)
  • Creatine is not a steroid!
  • Sugar is not necessary for absorption of creatine, but it will help. There are easier ways for absorption such as using micronized creatine or CEE.

Creatine Truths:

  1. Drink lots of water with creatine.
  2. Creatine should not be taken dissolved in an acid.
  3. Some people do not respond to monohydrate.
  4. Creatine causes some people to bloat or retain water.
  5. Taking creatine with sugar will increase absorption, but taking creatine with sugar and protein will double that!
  6. Take the creatine with the protein and take the sugar after 1 hour. This will allow the insulin spike, protein spike, and creatine spike to be roughly at the same time. Insulin spikes occur roughly 30 min after ingesting the sugar, while protein and creatine tend to take about 90 minutes to be at their highest concentration in the blood stream.
